Driverless Vehicles
Waymo has announced the public deployment of its purpose-built Zeekr minivan, known as Ojai, within its driverless fleet. The vehicle will initially be introduced at no cost to riders in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix, allowing Waymo to gather passenger feedback before expanding deployment to other markets. Electric Vehicles
The San Francisco Unified School District has partnered with Zum to deploy a fleet of electric school buses equipped with bidirectional charging capabilities. Beginning in 2026, Zum will provide 104 electric buses, associated charging infrastructure, and software that supports intelligent route planning and real-time fleet operations. Together, the buses are expected to provide up to 3 gigawatt-hours of energy storage capacity that can support the electric grid. See the full story San Francisco Unified School District here.
Electric Vehicles
Voltera and Revel have announced plans to merge and expand electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for autonomous vehicles, passenger EVs, and ridehailing fleets. The combined company is expected to focus initially on serving urban markets, with potential future expansion into battery energy storage, energy management strategies, and integrated fleet support services. Electric Vehicles
The California Air Resources Board has announced the California Clean Fuel Rewards program, a new point-of-sale rebate initiative for electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. Beginning June 26, 2026, eligible public fleets can receive rebates ranging from $7,500 to $120,000 per vehicle, depending on vehicle type and class. Funded through California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard program, the initiative is expected to provide approximately $250 million in incentives in 2026 and up to $1 billion through 2030. Goods Delivery
Walmart announced the completion of one million drone deliveries through its partnerships with Wing Aviation and Zipline. Approximately 40% of these deliveries were completed in the most recent quarter, reflecting rapid growth in service demand. Drone delivery is currently available from 66 Walmart locations across four states, with an average delivery time of approximately 23 minutes.
