TSRC supports the California Air Resources Board in its implementation of the state's Low Carbon Fuel Standard, which aims to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from transportation fuel at least 10% by 2020. Our current project involves estimating the GHG emissions from indirect land use change -- emissions from converting land to agricultural use as a result of the expansion of biofuel production. The Agroecological-zone Emission Factor model (AEZ-EF) takes the acreage changes projected by an economic model (GTAP) and estimates the GHG emissions associated with the projected land use change.
